Voting is the most important part of our democratic Republic. If you are eligible, you should register and vote.

And if you think your vote doesn’t matter, ask yourself: why would powerful people be working so hard to prevent people from voting?

In New York, you have until October 8th to register in order to vote in this year’s General Election (and I hope you’ll vote for me).

Last Monday night, the Lewisboro Town Board took a major step backwards by attempting to stifle and criminalize democracy.

In a vote, the Town Board voted to prevent town residents from interacting or questioning Board members during official Town Board meetings, unless the Town Supervisor gave his approval.

Their vote also threatens to prosecute any residents who attempt to question members during Board meetings with a criminal charge of disorderly conduct.

I say, “Nyet!”

Creeping authoritarianism is dangerous, whether it happens in the Oval Office or your local Town Board.

This vote must be rescinded or repealed, immediately.

Twenty years later and I remember it like it was yesterday … I was walking out of the subway in Battery Park when the first plane hit the tower … the rest of the day is surreal. God bless all those who lost their lives, their families, and our first responders who didn’t hesitate to save the lives of others. We will never forget them or their sacrifice.

Some people have received a nasty mailing today, with all kinds of vicious attacks on me, my husband and even my sister. 

The bottom line is that a jury ordered this guy to pay our company nearly a quarter million dollars — $230,531.12 to be exact. 

And he is furious — absolutely seething — because he lost after he had his day in court with a jury of his peers — after a week long trial. 

He’s been attacking me for years, and gotten more and more outlandish as time passed. So it wasn’t a surprise that he’s attacking me again, now that I am a candidate for public office. 

But he still managed to screw that up!  

New York State law requires that mailings and websites that attack (or promote) candidates be paid for by a committee filed with the State Board of Elections — so people know where the money comes from, and how it is spent.  

But it appears he didn’t do that. 

Neither his attack mailing nor his hateful website contain any ‘Paid for by’ disclaimer, as required by New York State law. So no one really knows who paid for all this, how much they spent, or what else they are spending money on. Or why they mailed it from Montana!  

But we will find out. 

To everyone — Democrats, Republicans, Independents — who reached out to me today: thank you.  

The cornerstone of my campaign has been that we need less partisan nonsense in town government. I’m glad to see that at least today, people of all political backgrounds have made it clear that they reject attacks like this one.

Many local parents were outraged when they learned that our local school district was routinely restraining special-needs children and placing them in seclusion – without timely parental notification.

One 13 year old student was restrained over 30 times in a two month period before his parent was notified.

I have two young children at home, and in the next couple of years, they’ll be in school.

So this issue is important to me.

The idea of school authorities putting their hands on any children, and not immediately notifying the parent, is an outrage. More so when the children have autism or other special needs.

In what kind of world is such an incident not cause for an immediate phone call to the parent?

What, may I ask, is possibly higher up on the ‘To Do’ list of local school officials?

Seriously. I want to know.

A child is physically restrained after an incident at school. In the minutes and hours that follow, what could be more important than a call to the parent? 

I support excellence in education. I support an end to restraints and seclusion for special-needs students.

And I want our school district to lead the way with policies and programs that help our most vulnerable children.

Installing cameras in self-contained classrooms for minimally and non-verbal students would be an excellent first step.

I support and endorse Assemblyman Burdick’s legislation that would mandate cameras in the classrooms of special-needs students on a statewide basis.

Special-needs students are some of the most vulnerable members of society, and they need our protection.
